TWINS! A.O.E. Babies Round 1

2/29/2012

This past weekend I went to my dear friend Laura's baby shower - so exciting!

(Please forgive me for completely neglecting my camera at the actual baby shower... the whole thing was just too exciting...)

She is one of my Sisters (from Alpha Omega Epsilon) who graduated a few years ago.  I was lucky enough to see her get married and I'm thrilled that now I get to see her family grow!

This is all super exciting for a few reasons:
1. Babies are exciting!
2. She is the first Sister from our Chapter to have a baby!!  (Although Sarah isn't far behind!!
3. THERE'S TWO OF THEM!!! :)

I did a little crafting for my baby gifts...

I made a onesie for each boy - declaring them as future boyfriends of the sorority, of course (I appliqued on lowercase greek letters, similar to my regular letter tutorial) and I made pacifier clips (I figured two dropping pacifiers isn't something worth worrying about...
Picture
I'm THRILLED with how it all came out!

For the pacifier clips, I used a piece of ribbon with some velcro on one end (to attach at the loop on the pacifier) and hot glued it to a flat-back safety pin on the other.  I used one of the safety pins that has the locking mechanism so that they won't unhook and poke the babies!  For the pea pods, I just made homemade shrinky dinks!  (Basically?  Just draw on #6 plastic with a sharpie marker, and then bake at 350 degrees for a few minutes until they stop shrinking...)

We still have a few months until the due date but Laura looks great and I'm so happy for her!! <3

Binghamton Dance Revolution 2012

Matt and I (accompanied by the incredibly wonderful and ever-faithful Krista) went to Binghamton on Saturday for their ballroom competition!  We only stayed for the morning - I had a little bridal shower/girls night for my dear friend Laura that I needed to get back for - so we were only able to dance Smooth (American Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz) and Standard (International Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango, and Viennese Waltz).

(Here we're awaiting the results!  Clearly I'm wishing we were doing Rhythm... Matt's just plain serious about it.)

We placed 1st in Gold Smooth Waltz/Tango and 2nd in Gold Smooth Foxtrot/Viennese Waltz - giving us 2nd overall for Smooth!  We were definitely excited about that... :)

We didn't do too bad in Standard either, though!  There were more couples (and definitely some that specialized in Standard more than we do) - we ended up with 6th in Gold Standard Waltz/Quickstep and 7th in Gold Standard Foxtrot/Tango.

Krista took video of all of the dances!  (I know... there's a lot... I added them all more so that it's easier for us to reference them when we're looking for what to work on...)

It took a little bit for her to get the gist of my crazy camera (focusing on a moving target is kind of a nightmare with it) so a bunch of them start off a little blurry but they eventually focus!  I didn't bother cutting them at all - again, it's useful for us to see the alignment, etc. :)

Gold Smooth Waltz (Final Round)
Gold Smooth Tango (Final Round)
Gold Smooth Foxtrot (Final Round)
Gold Smooth Viennese Waltz (Final Round)

Gold Standard Viennese Waltz (Quarter Final Round)
Gold Standard Waltz (Semi-Final Round)
Gold Standard Quickstep (Semi-Final Round)
Gold Standard Foxtrot (Semi-Final Round)
Gold Standard Tango (Semi-Final Round)
Gold Standard Viennese Waltz (Semi-Final Round)
Gold Standard Waltz (Final Round)
Gold Standard Quickstep (Final Round)
Gold Standard Foxtrot (Final Round)
Gold Standard Tango (Final Round) - ran out of SD card memory... :(

P.S. On a spontaneous whim, I decided to wear my blue dress instead of the new pink and white one... I forgot how much I LOVE this dress... It might just be my favorite...

Valentine's Requests...

A few days ago, I received this little gem:
Picture
I know... he's about as subtle as a bomb...

I know he was just kidding but that was all the more reason that I knew I just HAD to make it... you know... out of spite!  Err.... out of LOVE!  :)

The recipe was pretty easy to follow:

It was actually pretty delicious!  And Rob loved it... :)  And I loved that I completely surprised him.

A few things worth noting for the future:

* I didn't have cocoa powder so for the cake batter I just used one square of bakers chocolate - you melt it anyway so it worked just fine!  For the frosting, I just chopped up some semi-sweet chocolate chips and added them instead of the pecans.

* "Frost immediately" might not exactly be recommended.  I was skeptical about putting a buttercream frosting on a pretty warm cake.  And I was totally right to be - a lot of it melted right off the edge.  I threw it in the fridge right away though so I was able to save most of it!

It wasn't all about the cake though!  We had a nice evening together - yummy beef stew for dinner (ok, so it doesn't scream romance... but it's comfort food, people!) and were able to just take a break from studying and spend a little time together.  I gave him a gift certificate for a chocolate-making class for two (can't wait!).  Rob gave me a beautiful new charm for my Pandora bracelet - it's silver with white mother of pearl hearts on it.  Perfect.  :)

Spontaneous Ski Trip!

2/13/2012

Late Friday night we decided that it would be a crime to miss a day of skiing on Saturday... Stratton reported that they had gotten some pretty good snow during the day and they were continuing to make snow!

Bright and early Saturday morning, Kaleigh, Krista, James, JP, Brian, Pat, Jenn, and I packed into the cars and headed up to Vermont!

The weather was beautiful (visibility was a little rough in the morning given the falling snow and fog) and we managed to get some great runs in!  It was an interesting combination of powder with glacier ice - made for an exciting day, for sure!  By the afternoon it was getting way too crowded and people were skiing like maniacs so we called it a day and went home a little early.

I remembered to bring my camera (yay!) but forgot to actually take any pictures (boooo....) except for this one of Krista, Kaleigh, and I!  We took a quick break during our 2nd run for a photo op.  :)

A Little Linguini...

My dad bought me some of Flour City Pasta's wild mushroom linguini.  Flour City Pasta has a little booth at our weekly farmers' market and I can't WAIT to try all of their other pastas... Thus far?  Amazing experience.

I decided to make something super simple with the wild mushroom linguini - I picked up some mushrooms and sauteed them with a little garlic and white wine - recipe here!

Love it!  Simple and light - totally delicious...
