Glass Candle Votives - how many times is a charm, again?

Unpacking/organizing/reorganizing the new apartment + studying for my qualifier exam + research + the tempting first days of summer = neglected crafting :(

The one little project I did have time for was these adorable glass votives!

I had the glass stones and the plain votives from another project and when I brought out my hot glue gun for a little home repair, I had an idea!

I posted a little tutorial here (although it's pretty straight forward!).

I won't lie though, it wasn't as easy-breezy as I thought it was going to be!  I started off with a low-temp hot glue gun - epic fail... I came back the next morning to find 5 or 6 pebbles had fallen off and were laying on the table.  As I was re-attaching those, more were falling off.  (You know, the kind of thing that could bring you to tears when this simple little craft was supposed to give you a break from the rest of your hectic life).

So I switched to a high-temp hot glue gun, which was definitely an improvement but still had a few loose-stone issues but I eventually figured it out...  (Hence, the need for the little tutorial!)

Aren't they just perfect?

I love the way the light shines through the stones out onto the table, too!

Once I'd gotten the system down, and realized how cozy these could make the apartment, I decided Kate and Katie needed some too...

The three of us have just moved out of our shared apartment and given that we all love candles, it just seemed fitting that we each have them.  I ran out of votives so I was only able to make them each one but once I have a change to pick up some more, I'll be sure to complete the sets!  Although, two each might not be enough either... ;)

Katie wanted her's to be all clear stones - very classic and elegant...  :)

She posted them on her blog, Lucky Number 21, as well!  She blogs about her and John's apartment and all of the DIY that goes into it! - Definitely worth checking out...

And Kate got an orange one!

(I think she probably got the best picture out of all of us...)

As you can tell, all three of us were in love with the spray of light it gave out on the tabletop!!

Wow Ali!
I can't wait to try this!
Perhaps we can do a crafty night when you are visiting Rob's for the weekend.
I was thinking about violet or light blue or a combination........
Love the texture that the light created on the table!
And what a wonderful gift idea.

I used this idea several times over for Christmas and other gifts. The rounded votives you show seem to yield more polished results than the straight vertical ones I used. They still came out great though. Thanks for the idea!

I'm glad you were able to try them and thank you for the feedback! I also sent some out as Christmas gifts. :)
