I've come to dread hearing "well that wasn't a very good idea..." when people find out I stayed at the same school for undergrad and grad school... Too bad! What's done is done! Well... kind of... This is where Switzerland comes in! So there is a program called ThinkSwiss (yup.. one word...) and it's basically a 2-3 month study abroad but for research! Sounds fun right?! Other than the fact that they pay you with dirt (ok... maybe not actual soil... but they admit their stipend will typically pay two-thirds of your expected living costs... not including travel...) but yeah, other than that, it sounds fun!
I'm thinking that this might not be a bad experience for me... I'll get the exposure to other "schools of thought" (which was the big issue with me staying at RPI for both degrees) and it will also give me a little bit of a break. I'm looking at a couple of different Swiss universities - it's kind of a toss up between the French and German areas at this point... The only real catch is that I need to find a Swiss professor who will write me a recommendation letter... I'm becoming an expert at translating websites (and even reviving a little high school french!) and will hopefully start writing some e mails soon!
